New Tisdale Mayor using experience to serve the community

The new mayor of Tisdale is just a couple of days in the new job after being chosen in the community’s byelection.

Mike Hill will be sworn in at his Oath of Office next Monday and spoke to northeastNOW regarding his new gig.

“I’m just really looking forward to serving the community of Tisdale and continuing the working projects that we have underway. I think with my years of experience on council, when the opportunity came up, I saw it as a good fit because I’m familiar with a lot of the relationships that we have,” Hill said.

“It also works out pretty smoothly that I’m familiar with some of the policies and procedures that we’re dealing with on a day-to-day basis. I’m just really proud to represent the Town of Tisdale, and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Hill was born and raised in Tisdale and currently serves as the office manager at Chupa Trucking.

He also sits on the board of New Sask Community Futures and is involved with the Tisdale Lions Club, Tisdale Snowmobile Club, and the Tisdale Masonic Lodge.

“‘I’ve been on the council for nine years, so I’ve developed a pretty good ability to juggle these things, and I have an employer that allows me to do it. We have a fantastic council, and our previous mayors (Al and Roy) did a fantastic job. Both of them make this job pretty easy for me to step into,” added Hill

“I also thank Dean Janzen for a well-run campaign, he and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other, and it was a good race for sure. I’m absolutely thrilled that Dean is staying on council because he brings a lot of excellent perspectives to the table.”

During his time on council, Hill focused on financial management, including efforts to minimize taxation. He also played a role in the completion of infrastructure projects such as the new sewage treatment plant, lagoon expansion, and upgrades to the Regional Landfill.

Hill has also backed enhancements to recreational amenities for all ages, including the addition of a dog park, skate park, walking trails, and the introduction of various community programs like cooking classes, yoga sessions, and walking groups.

While he has no immediate ideas for future projects, he is focused on a current major undertaking, with a new ice plant for the Rec Plex.
