Dog attack in Arborfield puts woman in hospital with serious injuries

Nov 21, 2025 | 4:47 PM

A woman is recovering in hospital following a dog attack last Wednesday, Nov. 12 in Arborfield, about 70 kilometres north-east of Melfort.

According to the RCMP, the woman was attacked by two dogs and suffered serious injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the victim identified as Judy Gendron . The organizers said she has had to undergo several surgeries to repair damage to her tendons, muscles and nerves in her leg.

“This traumatic event has left Judy facing not only physical pain but also emotional distress and a long road of healing ahead. The financial burden of medical bills, follow-up appointments, rehabilitation, and her and Paul living on pension alone, has quickly become overwhelming for her and her family,” wrote one of the organizers on the GoFundMe page.

An area resident, who didn’t want to be identified, is worried there will be another attack. She claimed the dogs responsible for the injuries Gendron sustained came from a residence that has several other pitbulls. She said she has been chased by the dogs previously herself and that they ‘regularly get out.’

According to the Ministry of Health, there has been a growing number of injuries as a result of dog attacks in the province. Emergency departments track visits where the patient has been bitten or injured after being lunged at or struck by a dog (such as a bruise, fracture, or pulled muscle). In 2022, there were 2,031 incidents. In 2023, that number jumped to 2,274. Last year, there were 2,559 emergency department visits because of dog-related injuries. The ministry said the statistics don’t include injuries where treatment was not necessary, or treatment was sought elsewhere.

The RCMP said the matter is now an ongoing bylaw investigation with the RM of Arborfield.
