Broncos name Blair new head scout

The Humboldt Broncos have named a new head scout.

Cameron Blair, who has been with the organization since 2019, will step into the elevated scouting role for the upcoming season.

Blair is a former SJHLer himself, playing in the league from 2010-2014 with both the Flin Flon Bombers and Battlefords North Stars.

The Drake, SK. native would later go on to suit up for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for three seasons, capturing a Canada West Championship and National silver medal.

Blair had a history of leadership in his playing days, with time as an assistant captain and captain in the SJHL, while most recently captaining the Drake Canucks in the Long Lake Hockey League (LLHL), winning back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. He also participated in a pair of Allan Cups with the Rosetown AAA Redwings.

As a scout, Blair’s highlights with the Broncos include drafting and acquiring players such as Matthew Perkins, Matthew Van Blaricom, Connor Miller, Carstyn Kayter, and Rylan Hue. The 32-year-old even assisted in coaching late last season.

“Blair is bringing with him a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep connection to the SJHL community. He solidified himself as a respected figure in the league and has demonstrated the leadership qualities that follow him both on and off the ice. His roots run deep in Saskatchewan hockey, and his commitment to the Broncos is fueled by purpose and passion,” read statements from a team press release.

“The reason I started was to help after the tragedy. I love being part of a great organization, and ultimately want to contribute to bringing another championship to Humboldt,” added Blair.
