Wapiti Steak Night fundraiser expected to bring in over $25k

Dec 4, 2025 | 3:12 PM

The second annual Wapiti Steak Night fundraiser was another big success.

The event Nov. 29 is believed to have raised more than the $25,000 brought in during last year’s inaugural fundraiser, though totals have not yet been calculated.

The fundraiser is a partnership between the Wapiti Valley Ski and Board Resort and Prairie North Co-op (PNC).

Wapiti board member Warren Heavin first approached Prairie North Co-op General Manager Terry Tremblay last year, and PNC quickly signed on to be part of the event.

Tremblay told attendees at this year’s event that they were “proud to support the groups and charities that are focused on improving community and that bring communities together.”

Prairie North Co-op supplied the steaks, potatoes and fixings, and salad ingredients for the event. Members of the Agro team also cooked the steaks on the newly launched mobile barbecue, featuring four barbecues mounted on a trailer.

Heavin said the event is a family affair.

“The people here wouldn’t be recognized as snowboarders or skiers; they’re farmers and community members,” Heavin said in a Co-op news release. “It just goes to show how important this facility is. It’s not just a recreational outlet, it’s the community hall. It’s a gathering place.”

The event was a sellout, with 265 tickets sold, and the funds raised are designed for upgrades to the resort, supporting enhanced visitor experiences throughout the year. Proceeds from the inaugural event last year were used for upgrades to the pro shop, maintenance, and repairs.

The Wapiti resort is a non-profit organization, with all the money earned going toward maintaining and improving the hill and its facilities. It is the only four-season regional park in Saskatchewan.
