Dec 5, 2025 | 2:38 PM
A man charged after setting a ditch fire in tinder-dry conditions earlier this year will stay behind bars.
Troy Ratt of Pelican Narrows was sentenced to 272 days in prison and a 20-year firearm prohibition in NIpawin Provincial Court Dec. 3.
Ratt was charged with arson after Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP received a report of a small ditch fire beside Highway 55, near the Snowden turnoff on June 3.
The province was experiencing widespread wildfires during that time, especially in northern areas.
