Kelvington-Wadena MLA Chris Beaudry new Minister of Energy and Resources

“I’m really excited to get working with the Premier and all of the other cabinet ministers, and especially excited to be working in this spot,” Beaudry said.

The MLA said his family has a deep history in the oil and gas sectors. Beaudry himself spent a brief time in the Alberta oilfields in the 2000s, while his father and uncle have almost 100 years’ experience in the sectors between the two of them. The two spent time in Western Canada, northern Africa, Australia, and Europe in the oil and gas industry.

There is another reason Beaudry was excited about his new portfolio.

“Having Jansen/BHP in my constituency, I’ve already forged some really solid relationships with one of the largest mining companies in the world.”

The energy and resources sector is an important one in Saskatchewan, according to Beaudry. He said for the province to prosper, that sector needs to be doing well, and he looks to do what he can to make that happen.

While Beaudry will doubtless benefit from learning while on the job from people in and around government familiar with the portfolio, he said he’s been lucky in that he already has had relationships forged within the industry.

“I’m going to lean on my team for the first bit, but have no problem getting my toes wet early,” Beaudry said.

He added that he’s still available to discuss issues important to the Kelvington-Wadena constituency and wants people to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Meanwhile, eight other cabinet ministers remain in their portfolios.

Tim McLeod, Minister of Justice and Government House Leader
Lori Carr, Minister of Health Jeremy Cockrill, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors, and Rural and Remote Health and Government Deputy House Leader
Everett Hindley, Minister of Education
Jeremy Harrison, Minister responsible for Crown Investment Corporation, Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission, and Minister responsible for Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan Corporation
Terry Jenson, Minister of Social Services
Alana Ross, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, Tourism Saskatchewan and Status of Women

Remaining in cabinet but in different roles are:

David Marit, who is now Minister of Agriculture and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation
Ken Cheveldayoff, who remains Minister of Advanced Education and becomes Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety
Eric Schmaltz remains Minister of Government Relations and Minister responsible for First Nations, Metis and Northern Affairs and becomes Minister of Immigration and Career Training
Warren Kaeding, who remains Minister of Trade and Export Development and becomes Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority

Leaving cabinet along with Colleen Young are Travis Kelsig and Daryl Harrison.
