Hawks hit the road for clash with Klippers

Dec 13, 2025 | 12:00 PM

The Nipawin Hawks are roadtripping this weekend for a pair of matchups with the Klippers at the Inter Pipeline Events Centre Arena in Kindersley.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) clubs will meet back-to-back Saturday night, then again Sunday at 4 p.m.

Kindersley and Nipawin have met once this year, with the Hawks picking up a 6-3 win at the Centennial Arena on Nov. 26. The Klippers have won just once, and the Hawks are 3-2 in the same span since.

The Hawks lost the last two games in Flin Flon and against the Weyburn Red Wings at home. Head Coach Tad Kozun said the club is looking forward to the test from Kindersley.

“It’ll be a good weekend,” Kozun said. “We are excited to get on the road for the weekend and rebound from the last couple. In Flin Flon, we played hard, came up short. On Wednesday, we played too passive and beat ourselves. It’s time to get back to work, and it starts Saturday.”

Nipawin’s victory over Kindersley at the ‘Cage’ was a dominant Hawks win, arguably one of the team’s top games of the year. Kozun said that the same type of effort will be needed, and more in two games in under 48 hours.

“This trip isn’t easy in our schedule, but this is the SJHL. Travel sometimes gets long, and really, we only spend three nights in hotels, so I hope the guys enjoy the task, enjoy the time, and we get back to playing Hawks hockey. We are sitting fine in the standings nearing the halfway point, but now learning more about big games is the next step for this group.”

Prior to Wednesday’s game versus Weyburn, the Hawks got 20-year-old Saskatoon product Braeden Jockims back in the lineup after leaving the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Kozun had Jockims in Nipawin two seasons ago when he scored 15 goals in 28 SJHL games.

“That was a phone call we were excited to receive,” Kozun admitted about the return of the 6 foot, 180-pound winger that boasts an already veteran laden forward group.

“He’s got one game in so far, but we know he is going to get better and better once he gets to know these guys and his linemates. He’s been here before and knows what we expect. We are looking forward to a seamless transition and what he can do for us,” Kozun added.

Both games can be heard on 750 Beach Radio, starting with the pregame show 15 minutes ahead of faceoff.
