Freezing rain warning in effect for parts of province

Dec 15, 2025 | 4:24 PM

Environment and Climate Change Canada expects a warm front approaching from Alberta will bring freezing rain to central Saskatchewan tonight.

The agency issued a warning Monday afternoon. It said freezing rain is expected to begin this evening in Meadow Lake then spread eastward through Prince Albert into Nipawin and Hudson Bay overnight.

“The freezing rain will change to snow overnight or Tuesday morning as a cold front sweeps down from the north. Strong northerly winds behind the cold front will give reduced visibility at times in blowing snow overnight or Tuesday morning,” the alert read.

Senior climatologist David Philips said this time of year, the warm air and cold air are never too far apart. He said to expect a bit of a temperature rollercoaster across the province this week.
