Mustangs to conclude 2025 with home-and-home against rival Hawks

Dec 19, 2025 | 2:38 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will wrap up their 2025 portion of the season this weekend, in a home-and-home set with the Nipawin Hawks.

Melfort will play host to the Hawks tonight, before travelling to Nipawin on Saturday.

The Mustangs are coming off an overtime comeback victory last Saturday over the Humboldt Broncos.

“We’ve been playing a really good, solid, hard team game, and we hadn’t been getting too many bounces, so it just felt really good to get back in that win column,” explained captain Zayden Sadlemyer. “We’ve had a good week of practice here, so we hope to start off well tonight and then go from there. We just have to get back on our horse and be dogs on the puck.”

The Stangs are currently winless against their most hated rivals, losing all three previous matchups by a combined 9-4 margin.

Despite the scoring differential, the Blue and Green have actually outshot the Black and Gold by 14. Melfort has also let multiple third-period leads slip in said contests.

“We’ve had a couple of good games with them, we just have to shore some things up, and I think we’ll have them here this weekend,” added Sadlemyer. “There are definitely a few small details we have to clean up, but we’ll keep some of those trade secrets in the locker room for now. We feel we’ve dealt with that in practice this week, so we’re just happy to get this going this weekend.”

Puck drop from the Northern Lights Palace on Friday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
