The Town of Tisdale enters 2026 with a new mayor.

Mike Hill, who has spent nearly a decade on council, narrowly defeated fellow councillor Dean Janzen in Tisdale’s mayoral byelection on Nov. 12.

Hill told northeastNOW after his victory that he looks forward to serving the community as mayor.

“I think with my years of experience on council, when the opportunity came up, I saw it as a good fit because I am familiar with a lot of the relationships that we have,” Hill said.

Hill said his familiarity with the town’s policies and procedures is also an asset moving forward.

The Tisdale native is the office manager at Chupa Trucking, and he sits on the Newsask Community Futures board, along with being part of several local clubs and organizations. Hill said he came into the job with some solid footing.

“We have a fantastic Council, and our previous mayors (Al Jellicoe and Roy Skoglund) did a fantastic job,” Hill said. “Both of them make this job pretty easy for me to step into.”

According to Hill, he has focused on financial stability and minimizing taxation during his time on council. A major project being undertaken in the coming year is the replacement of the ice plant at the RECplex.

The byelection was called this fall after the resignation of Roy Skoglund in August. Skoglund had been elected as mayor in the fall of 2024.
