Tisdale’s mayor discusses 2025 and the year ahead

The recently elected Mayor of Tisdale is excited about the direction of the community as 2025 turns into the new year.

Mike Hill was elected mayor in November in a byelection following the resignation of Roy Skoglund in August.

Hill told northeastNOW 2025 was an important year for Tisdale from a communication standpoint.

It started with the launch of their new website that improves communication with residents and others. The town also launched a new notification system that notifies residents through their smartphones.

“We strengthened our resident engagement on public issues and community safety and enhanced open dialogue by hosting Tisdale’s first Town Hall Meeting back in June,” Hill said.

Hill said the Town also saw the arrival of a new fire truck, and there were also upgrades to the Water Treatment Plant in 2025. The town also saw some road paving projects completed, along with the resurfacing at the airport.

Tisdale also saw a major change in the downtown area.

“The town said goodbye to our former town office and Civic Centre, closing a chapter in Tisdale’s history,” Hill said. The building was torn down due to mould issues.

Hill said he’s excited to serve as mayor heading into 2026.

“I feel good; we’ve got a fantastic council,” Hill explained. “I feel like I’m well supported.”

Hill was elected after serving nine years on council and feels confident he has the experience to step into the mayoral chair.

Key priorities for Hill and Tisdale in 2026 include the ice plant and cooling tower upgrade at the RECplex, with a cost of $1.7 million plus tax and freight. Another is establishing regional recreation cooperation with neighbouring communities. The town is also welcoming Canadian Energy Metals’ research facility, with plans to start building in Tisdale in the new year.

Hill said he also looks forward to continued collaboration through the Invest Tisdale group, comprised of the Town of Tisdale and RM of Tisdale. The goal is to strengthen and boost local economic development. The town is also advancing on a community safety and well-being plan.
