Local organizations benefit from Melfort Christmas Castle

Jan 6, 2026 | 4:02 PM

The Melfort Christmas Castle has wrapped up for another year, and organizers said the event was a hit.

Elaine Tremblay told northeastNOW they were able to decorate more trees this year because they had additional help during the set-up stage. Over 100 trees and other festive decorations were displayed at the Historic Post Office during the Christmas season for people to enjoy.

“I think we had around 2,500 people attend or go through the doors,” Tremblay said.

Approximately $12,000 was raised at this year’s event. Donations will go to the North Central Health Care Foundation, the Historic Post Office restoration project, the Believe in the Gold childhood cancer foundation, and Grief Share.

This year’s Christmas Castle had two trains, with one going through a tunnel through the village. There were also several themed trees this year, including a Toronto Blue Jays tree and a Saskatchewan Roughrider-themed tree.

Several local organizations put their own touches on trees as well, including the North East School Division and others. Garry Forsyth put postcards on one tree, with some dating back over a hundred years. The Parkland tree had tags on it, which allowed patrons to take a gift to residents of the facility, while the Memory Tree saw names of loved ones put on the tree, with donations going to Grief Share.

Tremblay said they will look at adding more trees and changing them up a bit for next year to make the event bigger and better. She added having the lights outside, including those on the large tree beside the Historic Post Office that were installed by volunteers from the Melfort Fire Department, helped make the event even more festive and inviting.

She thanked everyone for their support.

“A really big thank you to all of the volunteers that came out to help set up and to help take down.”

Tremblay is also a Historic Post Office Advisory Group director, and she said they are planning several fundraisers for 2026 as they look to revitalize and restore the over century-old building.
