Mustangs head to Yorkton as trades continue

Jan 9, 2026 | 4:09 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are back on the road Friday as they head to Yorkton to take on the Terriers.

The Mustangs have lost their last three contests, but have since received a much-needed boost to their lineup, as forward Zayden Sadlemyer and defenceman Bo Eisner are back from the Viking Cup.

“I’m super excited to be back, and I think all the boys are feeling good after a couple of good days of practice this week. We’re ready to roll, and we want to make a statement in the second half of the year,” Eisner told northeastNOW.

“We just gotta start putting some more pucks in the net. We seem to be in it every game, we just need to bear down more when we get the opportunities.”

Not only are the Mustangs getting Eisner and Sadlemyer back, but they have made some trades in the last 24 hours to get in some new blood.

First, they sent Ryder Ellis to the AJHL for a young forward and a player development fee.

Next, they dealt 2006-born forward Reis Nyland to the Swan Valley Stampeders for 2006-born forward Darren Hunt and a player development fee.

After that, they acquired a player development fee from the Warman Wolverines for 2007-born forward Trey Markus.

And finally, they traded 2005-born defenceman Austin Osiowy to the Virden Oil Capitals of the MJHL, for 2005-born forward Noel Englot.

Hopefully, this sparks the Blue and Green against the Terriers.

“Yorkton is a high-flying team, and they like to play with the puck. They’re very offensive, so we have to try to take it away in their D-zone. It should be a good matchup,” Eisner added.

“I think our D zone has been great, and that we’ve had good compete, so I think our team’s right there. We just need to start clicking a bit, and I think things will go well.”

Puck drop from Yorkton is set for 7 p.m.
