Complete overhaul

Broncos trade best players away at deadline

The Humboldt Broncos have done a complete overhaul of their team at this year’s trade deadline.

Humboldt traded away their captain, assistant captain, leading scorer and number one goaltender in a mere 24-hour stretch.

And that all came after sending one of their top defencemen away in Oakley McIlwain.

Following the McIlwain deal, the Broncos made a massive deal with the Flin Flon Bombers.

In three separate trades, all announced at the same time, Humboldt first sent Connor Miller to Flin Flon, in exchange for future considerations.

Miller, an assistant captain, had 29 points in 27 games as a 19-year-old this season with the Broncos.

Next, it was the Green and Gold shipping their captain, Ryder Knutson, and a 2010-born third-round selection in the 2026 SJHL draft, in exchange for the Bombers’ first-round selection, a player development fee, and a player to be named later.

The 21-year-old had 16 points in 24 games this campaign.

The last player that Humboldt sent to Flin Flon was their number-one goaltender, Charlie Tritt.

The Broncos also dealt their 2010-born fifth-round selection in the upcoming draft, and in return, acquired a 2011-born second-round selection, another player development fee, and another player to be named later.

Tritt, a 20-year-old, is both first in the SJHL in save percentage (.940) and goals-against-average (2.14), this year.

Once that massive deal was completed, Humboldt somehow still wasn’t done, as they traded the now third leading scorer in the league out east, when they sent Jacob Strizzi to the Milton Meance of the OJHL.

Strizzi, a 20-year-old, had 46 points in just 30 games on the season.
