Home break-in, vandalized businesses lead to charges against Melfort man

A Melfort man is facing charges after several businesses were vandalized.

RCMP were called about a disturbance at a home in the 500 block of Stovel Ave. W. early Thursday morning.

It was alleged a man under the influence of an illegal drug broke into the house and damaged a window.

He was taken into custody.

Police were then called about vandalism at several businesses along Main St.

The investigation determined the man they already had in custody was responsible for a number of those incidents, which included broken windows at various businesses and a park bench being destroyed.

The 39-year-old will appear in Melfort provincial court on Friday.

He faces one count of break-and-enter and multiple counts of criminal mischief.

RCMP said the man also had outstanding warrants from the Saskatoon Police Service at the time of his arrest.
