Potential Playoff Indicating Set

Mustangs set for most important weekend of the season against Klippers

The Melfort Mustangs will arguably play their two most important games of the season this weekend.

Melfort is set to host the Kindersley Klippers, who currently occupy the eighth and final playoff spot (win-percentage-wise) in the SJHL, on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s huge. I’d say this is definitely the biggest week in our season. It’s tough because you don’t really want to look at points, but it’s getting to the point now where it’s crunch time, and we know that as a group. We know that in the locker room, that this is definitely huge, so I think the boys are ready, and they’re gonna show up,” said forward Kaleb Binner.

“We’ve seen Kindersley a lot in the past couple of years, obviously with playoffs and everything, so we know what they’re about, and we know their systems. Ultimately, though, it’s about playing our game and sticking to our systems because we don’t want to adapt to them; we want them to have to play our way.”

The Mustangs had done well to get themselves back in the mix, as they had a six-game point streak to get them closer to postseason position.

Unfortunately, the last two games following said streak have bumped them back down a bit, and they hope to regroup, being seven points back.

“We were riding a pretty good wave there, and then the last two games, we really got away from doing what’s helped us be successful in previous games. I think it’s just a blip in the road, and guys just need to get their confidence back and have a huge weekend here. We’re looking to play much better these next two games,” Binner added.

“We know what we have to do; it’s pretty evident. Our work ethic has been lacking these last couple of games, and we know that as a group. How this team has success is work ethic, so we know that we have to go back to playing hard hockey. Going into the weekend with that attitude will help us a lot.”

These two clubs haven’t seen one another since late October, when they split a weekend set in Kindersley.
