Mustangs win big game over Klippers, look for another on Saturday

Feb 7, 2026 | 5:05 PM

The Melfort Mustangs secured one of their biggest wins of the season on Friday, taking down the Kindersley Klippers 5-2.

Melfort is now six points back of a playoff spot, and seven points behind Kindersley, as they host the Klippers once more on Saturday.

“Obviously, a big win for us, some good things we can take away for sure, but we’re gonna flush it all out and come out even stronger on Saturday, because it’s gonna be an even bigger game,” said defenceman Carter Bilous.

“We want to get our D-zone a little bit better, off the rush and down low, we lost our guys a couple of times in the first period, so we’ll get that cleaned up and be ready to go for Saturday.”

Bilous scored the first goal of the game for the Mustangs, his second career goal and his second in as many games.

Should he want to make it three in a row, he told northeastNOW that he and company will have to continue a physical style of gameplay.

“Definitely two physical teams. We like to play with grit, and we know they like to play with grit, so definitely expecting a hard and physical game again on Saturday,” Bilous added.

“Two’s a fluke, and three is a streak. A goal is a goal, and I’m just trying to help the team win.”
