Laycock, Martin win provincial mixed doubles
The 2026 Saskatchewan Mixed Doubles Curling Provincials are officially wrapped up, with Steve Laycock and Nancy Martin coming out victorious.
Laycock and Martin won the final Sunday afternoon by beating the Remeshylo and Derksen duo, 9-6 in an extra end, at the Nipawin Evergreen Curling Club.
“It was obviously an exciting finish for us to get the win in an extra end, and full marks to the team we played in the final. They were fantastic; they beat us twice, so it almost seems a little unfair that we beat them the third time, and we get to go to Nationals, but that’s the way it goes. You have to win that final game, and we were able to pull that off today,” explained Laycock.
“They’re a young team there, and they’re the future of our sport, which is super exciting for mixed doubles, especially in Saskatchewan. The ice was amazing all week, and we’ve been watching the Olympics and the struggle with the ice there, so for us, it felt like a real treat to be out here in Nipawin, and just feel like the ice was the same all weekend,” added Martin.
