Coffee with Council held in Melfort

Feb 12, 2026 | 11:24 AM

City council in Melfort hosted Coffee with Council at the Kerry Vickar Centre Wednesday night.

Residents came out to ask questions and discuss concerns with councillors and Mayor Glenn George.

Councillor Tara Muntain told northeastNOW the quarterly event is a great way to learn more about what’s happening with the city. Several topics were discussed in the informal setting, including housing, infrastructure, business growth, and much more.

“I think it was great too that we had a few people that reached out and said ‘I didn’t know this was on tonight and I’ve got a list of questions on my fridge that I want to bring to the next one’,” Muntain explained.

She said the get-togethers are an opportunity to discuss important issues or concerns, or also to provide positive feedback.

“I had one person earlier today who came up and said ‘I’m not going to make it tonight, but I want to say what a great job the city has done in snow clearing, and I appreciate it’.”

While residents can always go to City Hall or talk to Council members while out and about in the community, Muntain said the Coffee with Council get-togethers allows for honest, one-on-one discussion in a relaxed, informal setting.

“It might be a little easier than coming to a Council meeting where it’s a very formatted and regulated meeting, so it’s harder maybe to get to some background information that you’re looking for.”

During Wednesday’s discussions, Muntain and other councillors were able to look further into a bylaw to answer a question from a resident in attendance, and that’s something the informal setting allows them to do.

The next Coffee with Council will be in about three months, and Muntain said they will hold it at a time that doesn’t interfere with seeding.
