Mustangs sweep Broncos, in Warman on Family Day

Feb 16, 2026 | 2:31 AM

The Melfort Mustangs completed the weekend sweep of the Humboldt Broncos on Saturday.

Following a 3-2 comeback victory in Melfort on Friday, the Mustangs won 2-1 in Humboldt for their fifth win in a row.

“What was working well, and what really has over the last 12 or so games, has just been the buy-in. I know that’s pretty broad, but just buying into the way that we have to play, defending really hard, making sure we’re physical, getting after it on the forecheck and in the D zone. Maybe we had some lapses in that early in the season, but now I think everyone’s super bought in, and the results are showing,” explained assistant coach Clarke Huxley.

“Got off to a hot start with two goals in the first, and I thought we definitely had some more chances, and probably should have put a few more in, but luckily, two was enough to win. I think we just shut them down. We had that little lapse there, and they potted one on us, but I think after that, we really shut it down.”

The Stangs will now travel to Warman on Monday to take on the Wolverines for a family day affair.

The Blue and Green are 2-1 against the Wolverines this season, and are now just one point back of a playoff spot, and a game above .500 for the first time since November.

“There’s no standings watching whatsoever, they’re a good team. We played them three times this year, and they’ve all been really good games. You can’t be looking or be too worried about the standings, every single night’s a battle, so we gotta be ready,” Huxley concluded.

“Our guys are just doing a good job of taking care of themselves off the ice, practices are really quick, but we make sure we get after it when we have to. No matter what, they’re just doing a good job of being ready to go every day.”

Puck drop from Warman is scheduled for 2 p.m.
