Mustangs host Ice Wolves in search of seventh straight win

Feb 20, 2026 | 12:58 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will look to continue their hot streak Friday night as they welcome the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Melfort enters this evening’s contest on a six-game win streak, as they’ve brought themselves right back in the thick of things.

“I think we just got to play the same way we’ve been playing, and just stick to our structure. We’ve been playing great, so I think if we continue with the same structure, then we’ll be good,” explained forward Kelan Simmonds. “We want to keep our foot on the gas here, keep going in the right direction, and make sure we’re continuing to work hard.”

The Mustangs have been in a lot of close games recently, with numerous one-goal and extra-time wins.

Some of those victories have included comebacks, which the Stangs were able to do, at least partially, the last time they played the Ice Wolves.

The Blue and Green’s last loss came in La Ronge, as they tied up a 3-3 game, after trailing 3-0, before unfortunately, ultimately falling 4-3.

“I think we took them too lightly the last time we played them, so we’re gonna come into this game way harder and just way more ready to go,” Simmons added. “Our team has adapted really well to this last stretch, just constantly being in close games, and all of them mattering a ton. We’ve also just done a great job recently in making sure we’re closing those games, and coming out on top.”

Melfort is currently in ninth place in the SJHL standings, just one point back of Melville, Estevan, and Kindersley, who occupy sixth, seventh, and eighth.

Friday night’s contest will be the fourth and final visit to the Northern Lights Palace for La Ronge this year.

Puck drop between the Mustangs and Ice Wolves is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
