Mel-Bex Awards to honour Melfort and area businesses next month

Feb 21, 2026 | 8:05 AM

The annual celebration of businesses and entrepreneurs in Melfort is a month away.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce will present the Mel-Bex Awards at the Kerry Vickar Centre March 21.

Executive Director Lorana McComber said she is excited to be more involved in this year’s event. She started her position with the Chamber after the planning for last year’s event had already taken place.

“Being part of the process from day one has made it even more special, and I’m really proud of what the committee has put together,” McComber told northeastNOW

There are two new award categories for 2026, including New Business of the Year and Agricultural Achievement Award. They join the existing categories of: Business of the Year 16 and over employees, Business of the Year 15 and under employees, Community Involvement – Business Corporate, Community Involvement – Non-Profit, Customer Service, Heritage, and Property Appearance. The gala will also honour the Citizen of the Year and Junior Citizen of the Year, who will be announced prior to the event.

“We are incredibly fortunate to live in a community with so many amazing businesses and services right here at home,” said McComber. “Honouring them is a way to recognize their hard work, dedication, and the important role they play in making Melfort and area such a great place to live and do business.”

Nominations for the awards have closed, and McComber said they had a great response from both Chamber members and the public.

McComber said the gala promises to be an exciting event. It will include a panel discussion with the award winners, and this year’s entertainment is comedian Jody Peters. This year’s Mel-Bex Awards will also feature a cocktail networking hour from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. McComber said that gives guests an opportunity to connect before the program begins.

Supper will be catered by O’ The Taste, and the Melfort Lions Club is offering free rides home from the event.

Tickets are $100 each, or a table of eight for $700. You can contact McComber by phone or email to book yours.
