Mustangs up to sixth with dominant win over La Ronge

Feb 21, 2026 | 4:57 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are now in sixth place in the SJHL standings following their dominant win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday night.

Melfort has won seven games in a row to get to this point, as they jumped from ninth to sixth, paired with losses from a handful of other teams.

The Mustangs were shot out of a cannon in the 6-1 victory, with all six of their goals coming in the first 25 minutes of the game.

“I think the message coming into the game was that the last time we played them, we might have taken them a bit lightly, so this time we just had to come out and play our game and be strong and physical right away, and I think we did that,” said captain Bo Eisner.

“Redemption was on our mind, so now we’re going to have to come out even harder on Saturday night when we travel to them to play again. They’re definitely gonna come out ready to go.”

Friday night marked the final trip to Melfort for La Ronge this season, while the Mustangs still have to visit the Ice Wolves twice.

One of those times is this evening, as the Stangs hope to hold steady and avoid a similar result they had last time at the JRMCC.

“It’s probably gonna be a physical game, obviously a couple fights on Friday, so it’s gonna be chippy, but we know we just have to stick to our game,” Eisner added. “We had a lot of belief in this room that we were gonna be able to get back into a playoff spot, and maybe we didn’t think it would be sixth or this fast, but we stuck to it, and it worked out, so now we want to keep it that way.”
