Pasture related feed costs to be included in AgriStability support program
AgriStability is being expanded to include pasture-related feed costs as an eligible expense for livestock producers.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Heath MacDonald said the guidelines are being expanded in the 2026 program year for expenses incurred by producers who graze their animals on land they do not own. This includes cow-calf, sheep, and goat farmers, who rely heavily on rented pastureland.
MacDonald said the improvements reinforce the federal government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening risk management tools for farmers.
“Canadian livestock producers deserve risk management programs that reflect the realities of their operations. Adding pasture-related feed costs as an allowable expense ensures fairer support for those who rely on rented pastureland,” he said. “Our government is committed to supporting producers with effective, responsive programs to protect farming operations.”
