Five homemade devices placed

Tire deflation devices scattered around Nipawin

Mar 2, 2026 | 3:07 PM

RCMP in Nipawin are looking into the placement of homemade tire deflation devices around the community.

Police were called Sunday morning about the devices on several streets within Nipawin, and at the entrance to the RCMP detachment parking lot.

RCMP immediately patrolled the streets in Nipawin and areas around other emergency services buildings.

They did not find any additional homemade spike strips, designed to puncture tires.

There were five devices found within Nipawin:

  • at the corner of First Avenue East and Second Street East
  • at the corner of Railway Avenue and First Avenue West
  • in entrance to the parking lot of the Nipawin RCMP Detachment located at 119 Nipawin Road East.

There was no vehicle damage reported to the RCMP, and police say the devices are made of black drywall screws put through white electrical cord.

The devices are believed to be placed at those locations on Sunday between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Anyone with information is urged to call 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
