After almost a week and a half of being on the run, an escaped inmate from Saskatchewan Penitentiary has been arrested.

Keiston Custer appeared Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded to March 11.

On Feb. 23, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) reported Custer’s escape from Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

Custer was arrested Wednesday night in Prince Albert, and was reportedly in possession of meth, cash and bear spray.

According to information provided by CSC, Custer had ‘absconded from lawful custody’ when being transported by staff from Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Feb. 20.

The CSC also confirmed they are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In January of 2023, Custer received a 12-year prison sentence for manslaughter.

This was in connection to the death of Norman Charles Custer who was shot in the back in May 2021 in the 900 block of 17th St. W.
