The Town of Nipawin has announced that they have hired their new chief administrative officer (CAO).

They have appointed David Gillan the new CAO, effective April 6.

Gillan served one term as mayor of North Battleford, beginning in 2020. He also served as finance director in North Battleford and the Town of Battleford.

“Mr. Gillan brings a wealth of experience in municipal leadership, financial administration, and regional economic development,” the town said in a news release. “His background in municipal finance and governance provides strong expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and municipal operations.”

The town stated that Gillan’s experience provides him with a well-rounded understanding of both municipal governance and administration.

“Earlier in his career, Mr. Gillan spent considerable time working internationally in the private corporate sector holding many senior management positions before returning to Canada and working in the Battlefords in municipal government,” the town stated. “The Town of Nipawin looks forward to welcoming Mr. Gillan to the organization and working together with council, administration, and community partners to continue advancing priorities that support the long-term success and growth of the community.”

Gillan will replace retiring CAO Michele Sorensen, who has held a variety of positions with the Town of Nipawin for the past 27 years.
