Looking to raise $200k

NRHF launches ENT surgical equipment campaign

The Nipawin Region Health Foundation has launched its latest fundraiser to purchase much-needed equipment for the Nipawin Hospital.

The foundation’s goal is to raise $200,000 to purchase advanced ENT surgical equipment that will allow specialized ear, nose, and throat procedures to be performed in the community.

“We will be purchasing a surgical microscope and a power console and hand tools for ENT surgeons at the Nipawin Hospital,” Executive Director Danielle Armstrong told northeastNOW

Armstrong said the equipment will allow the ENT surgeries to stay in Nipawin. She added that surgeons like up-to-date tools that will let them perform the surgeries to the best of their abilities.

“We don’t want to lose them to other facilities if we don’t have up-to-date equipment.”

The equipment will also reduce the need for patients to travel to Saskatoon or Prince Albert for care.

“Keeping it close to home so that people aren’t travelling right after a surgery, and also people who may not have the means for travel to larger centres,” said Armstrong.

The tools allow surgeons to perform more types of ear, nose, and throat surgeries, according to Armstrong, along with allowing for a quicker healing time.

“Everything we do this year, we’ll be putting towards it,” Armstrong explained.

The Nipawin Region Health Foundation will once again be Tim Hortons Smile Cookie recipients this year, with the campaign taking place April 28 to May 4. The Foundation’s annual Panhandler Golf Tournament will once again be held in August.
