Launches survey

City of Melfort seeking input from businesses

Mar 16, 2026 | 2:25 PM

The City of Melfort wants to hear from businesses to understand their needs, both now and in the future.

They have launched a survey for local businesses to get their feedback.

Community Development Coordinator Kayla Prefontaine told northeastNOW they want to learn about the challenges and opportunities those businesses are facing.

“We are hoping to learn more about the current business climate in Melfort, including the challenges businesses are facing and the opportunities they see for growth,” Prefontaine said. “Most importantly, we want to understand what supports or resources would help them succeed and continue investing in the community.”

The survey asks questions about overall confidence in doing business in Melfort, along with the issues businesses face, and where they see chances for growth.

“We’re also asking what supports they need, whether that’s workforce development, housing, infrastructure, or business resources,” explained Prefontaine.

She said the survey is designed to better understand the experiences and perspectives of local businesses.

“It is part of the 2025-2026 Economic Development Action Plan approved by council last October that will inform the development of an economic development strategy,” Prefontaine said. “Survey feedback will help guide the city in identifying priorities, addressing challenges, and supporting future economic growth in Melfort.”

Prefontaine said hearing directly from businesses will help the city better understand their needs, along with identifying challenges and opportunities, and ensuring the city is making informed decisions that support business growth and long-term economic success.

The city has undertaken several initiatives in the past as well to connect with local businesses and better understand the health of the local economy. Prefontaine said the feedback from business owners helps ensure the city is listening and making informed decisions supporting a strong business community.

“The City of Melfort plays an important role in creating a positive environment for businesses by supporting infrastructure, encouraging investment, and maintaining open communication with the business community,” Prefontaine added. “The City also helps ensure there is adequate residential, commercial, and industrial land available for development, and can serve as a hub for business communication and information in partnership with the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce.”
