Icy conditions causing headaches across the Northeast

A notice from the Town of Nipawin could likely apply to most communities across the Northeast. 

The Town has cautioned residents about the extremely icy conditions in Nipawin.

“Snow and ice are melting during the day and refreezing overnight, creating very slippery roads, sidewalks, and public areas,” the Town’s notice read. “Conditions can change quickly, and surfaces that appear wet may in fact be ice.” 

The notice stated that Nipawin’s Public Works Department is monitoring conditions and applying sand and ice control measures where possible.  

“We are prioritizing high-traffic areas, intersections, and key routes, but it will take time to address all locations.”

The Town said the department is also working on clearing storm drains to help manage the melting ice and snow. Residents are being asked to obey all work signage, and to drive and walk carefully. 

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work through these conditions and keep our community as safe as possible,” the note read.
