On to Game 5

Mustangs stay alive with offensive explosion

The goals finally came for the Melfort Mustangs on Wednesday night, and they did so in a big way.

Facing elimination, the Mustangs defeated the visiting Battlefords North Stars 9-4, despite allowing the first two goals of the game.

“We knew the situation coming to the game, and it definitely was a little discouraging, and took the wind out of our sails, letting those two in right away. The guys were resilient, though, and they stormed back right away. Even though we let in two right off the hop, it didn’t really feel like there was any panic on the bench,” explained assistant coach Clarke Huxley.

“We felt like we’ve had some pretty good chances all series, and obviously, they’ve had really good goaltending for the first three games, but tonight it just kind of went in for us, so that was definitely nice to see.”

The Melfort victory extended the season at least one more game, as they will now try to do something similar in North Battleford on Saturday.

“We just have to play with that same urgency, and that same Mojo. We came out right away, and again, with the exception of the two goals against, I thought we were ready to go. We were physical, and we were playing like our backs were against the wall, because they were, so we just got to keep that mentality. We told the guys before the game that we’ve had our backs against the wall for a good chunk of the second half.”
