Mustangs trying to keep season alive in North Battleford

Mar 28, 2026 | 5:26 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are in North Battleford Saturday night for Game 5 of their first-round series against the North Stars.

Melfort won Game 4 at home, back on Wednesday, to extend the series to this point.

Now, they’ll have to keep their season alive with no margin for error once more, hoping to replicate their 9-4 performance.

“We enjoyed the win that night, but the very next day we were focused on Game 5 and what we have to do to be successful,” explained Mustangs assistant captain Nolan Patterson.

“Obviously, the 9-4 win really boosts our confidence up. We were never down on ourselves, or anything, but the confidence is way up, and we’re excited for Game 5… we seem to play our best when our backs are against the wall, and they’re going to be against the wall again, but pressure makes diamonds, so we’ll be ready.”

If the Stangs are able to come out victorious, something they were unable to do in Games 1 and 2 in Battleford, then they would force a Game 6, back at the Northern Lights Palace, on Monday.

Puck drop Saturday night for the Blue and Green is set for 7:30 p.m., with the pregame show beginning at 7:10 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com.
