Two northeast locals are set to be inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame this fall.

The 2026 class will see seven different inductees, with a pair coming from Humboldt and Melfort, respectively.

First is Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt, in the athlete category. A bronze medalist in the 2016 Olympics, she holds multiple Canadian records, including most points earned in the heptathlon (6,808) and the indoor pentathlon (4,768).

Theisen-Eaton made her Olympic debut back at the 2012 Summer Games in London with a tenth-place finish. She has also won a pair of silver medals when she competed at the 2013 and 2015 IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation) World Championships. Theisen-Eaton’s best finish came at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, when she brought home gold.

Prior to her international career, she studied and competed at the University of Oregon, setting several school records. There, she won consecutive NCAA heptathlon titles and two NCAA indoor titles, accomplishing one with a record-breaking score.

Up next was Melfort’s own Dr. Marlys Misfeldt, in the builder category.

“For almost 40 years, Dr. Misfeldt has worked to increase the safety and quality of care for athletes in Saskatchewan while improving the awareness of the need for safety policies and procedures in sport,” stated a Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame press release.

“Her volunteer work has helped educate health care providers and sports organizations on the importance of having medical policies and procedures in place to ensure athlete safety.”

Dr. Misfeldt has most notably served on the International Traditional Karate Federation Sport Medicine Committee since 1995, after completing work in karate that ‘helped make the sport safer for participants’.

The announcement of the 2026 Induction Class is part of a year-long celebration of the Hall of Fame’s 60th anniversary, with inductees of the 2026 class set to join the previous 561 members of the Hall of Fame on September 26.

The Hall of Fame will also have a mobile exhibit trailer travelling to communities across the province this summer to ‘celebrate the stories of Saskatchewan sport excellence’.
