Scholarship program opens doors for people in the ag sector

May 8, 2026 | 3:48 PM

Applications are now open for the 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship Program, offering agricultural professionals a chance to study global farming and food systems through international travel and research.

The program is open to individuals between the ages of 25 and 50 who are involved in agriculture, food production, or related businesses.

Successful applicants will take part in a two-year program that includes a minimum of 10 weeks of international travel, allowing them to explore a chosen topic through hands-on learning and engagement with producers, researchers and industry leaders around the world.

Nuffield Chair Steve Larocque said the journey takes the scholar to the edge of their imagination and then catapults them beyond it.

“The journey challenges scholars like they never have been before and gives them perspective and insight on global challenges and opportunities they’d never find at home,” Larocque said.

Participants are expected to complete an in-depth research project and share their findings with the Canadian agriculture sector upon their return.

Nuffield Canada said the program is designed to build leadership capacity within the industry, while helping scholars develop a broader understanding of global food production systems and emerging issues.

The graduates of the program gain an international network of contacts, long-term professional relationships, and new ideas they can apply within their own operations, businesses, and communities.

Applications for the 2027 program close Jun. 30.
