Hawks acquire SJHL veteran Brock Evans in major move
The Nipawin Hawks have made a trade sending two 20-year-olds to Kindersley for Brock Evans and the third pick in Tuesday’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) draft.
In return for Evans and the pick, the Hawks sent Konnor Watson and Justus Cutler to Kindersley. Nipawin General Manager Tad Kozun said giving up two players like Watson and Cutler was not easy, but the return is something the Hawks were excited for.
“We just looked today, Brock has played 193 games in the league already and wants to be here,” Kozun said. “When we learned Brock was available, we wanted to make the move and bring him in. He will fill the void of Eric Hoiness leaving. Brock can play a 200-foot game, kill penalties, and win big faceoffs.”
Watson was drafted by the Hawks fourth overall in the 2022 draft and was a marquee player for Nipawin, scoring 33 goals in two seasons. The Spiritwood, SK. product also had six points in five playoff games this past season including an overtime goal in Weyburn. Kozun appreciated everything Watson brought to the team over the past couple years.
