Arborfield Curling Club reaches fundraising goal, upgrades expected to be completed ahead of winter season

The Arborfield Curling Club is working to complete much-needed repairs to its facility before the winter season.

Several components of the building reached the end of their service life this past season, prompting a fundraising campaign over the past few months to help ensure another year of curling.

“Our fundraising has gone very well; the outpouring of support from the community and donors has been amazing,” said club treasurer Wendy Ralph. “We hosted a few events ourselves, including suppers, a car show and a cornhole tournament, and we reached our goal of $25,000.”

The club took an estimate of the expenses of new parts, which have included compressors, fans, and a pump, along with touch-up items to make the 45-year-old club look new again.

According to Ralph, without the replacements, the club would not have been able to continue with artificial ice.

The work is not yet complete, as installation of a few parts still has not been done. All the parts, however, have been ordered and are prepped to be installed.

Ralph added that the club usually begins their season in December and that the work might not resume again until August, post-harvest.

“I think our fundraising efforts just prove that people see the value in the club and that it’s a great meeting place for the community.”
