Mustangs sweep preseason set with Hawks via shootout victory

The Melfort Mustangs are now 2-0 halfway through their preseason schedule. Melfort won their second straight game over the Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday by way of a 2-1 shootout finish.

With the victory, the Mustangs earned the sweep over their bitter rivals, despite extremely young and new lineup constructions.

“I think (Trevor) Belvins did a great job this off-season. We got a lot of great guys here that can play, and that want to play how we play here. I think it’s just a great group, and I’m excited to see what we have moving forward,” explained returning forward Lincoln Rogers.

“Obviously, it’s a rivalry with us and Nipawin, no question about it, so even in the preseason it’s always great to beat them. It’s known that we didn’t have great luck against them last year, especially in their building, so getting the first one in the Cage is good to have, and it definitely gets the mojo going.”
