Grandberg bringing Ironman toughness to Mustangs
The Melfort Mustangs have one of their young draft picks set to join the team this year, and he’s bringing an Ironman toughness with him.
Defenceman Eric Grandberg, who was Melfort’s 21st overall pick in the 2008-born portion of the 2023 draft, comes to the Mustangs as a Saskatoon Blazers and SMAAAHL legend, having set records for both the franchise and the league.
Grandberg, now 18 years old, is the Blazers’ all-time leader in games played, doing so in a consecutive-game fashion to claim the longest Ironman streak in Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League history.
“I think something like that comes mainly from the preparation. Before games, you always make sure you put the work in to be fully stretched out and ready to go, and then do a proper cool-down after the games. Obviously, luck plays into that as well when it comes to staying healthy, so I was fortunate in that department too,” Grandberg told northeastNOW.
