Grandberg bringing Ironman toughness to Mustangs

“It would without a doubt be great to do something like that in Melfort too, but it’s definitely not my main goal. I’m just focused on working my hardest every day, and I get lucky and stay healthy again; then that’s just a bonus. I always want to be ready to play and play my best when I’m out there. In the SJHL, it’s pretty easy to tell that these guys are a lot older, bigger and stronger, so the hitting will be harder, and every guy is gonna be ready for anything.”

Once all was said and done, including regular season, playoffs and regionals, Grandberg played 164 games in a Blazers uniform, 161 of which were consecutive. The other three games came as an affiliate player before he was even fully a part of the Saskatoon club.

The six-foot-one, 187-pound blueliner even found time to AP with the Stangs during that time, having already gotten his first taste of Junior A action.

“All I’ve heard is how amazing Melfort is from the guys and from other people around. Melfort seems like a great place, so I’m just excited for that, and to just work my butt off and have a good time,” added Grandberg.

“With the Blazers, it was so fun to come to the rink every day, so it just made being healthy all the more better, because there was never a second I didn’t want to be out there at games, practices, or anything else. What they did for me when I set those records, and even just the whole three years, I’ll remember forever. They made those moments as special as possible for me, so I’ll always be grateful for that.”

Grandberg saw two exhibition matches for Melfort this past week, scoring a goal against Humboldt. He looks to be a promising piece for the Mustangs’ organization now and in the future, with the Blue and Green set to begin their regular season this Friday, Sept. 18, against the Nipawin Hawks.
