One of the major events in downtown Melfort has come and gone for another year.

The 34th annual Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) Show and Shine was held on Friday.

The rain held off despite the dark clouds, and vehicle enthusiasts from across the region and around the province gathered in the city.

Over 100 vehicles were registered for the event on Friday, and Chamber Executive Director Cal Gratton told northeastNOW it was a fantastic day.

“There’s vehicles from all over the province and northeast Saskatchewan again as always,” Gratton said.

He added the car show is about more than just vehicles, with many people choosing to come to Melfort to shop, eat at local restaurants, and take in what the city has to offer.

Show and Shine has almost always been held on the Friday before Father’s Day, said Gratton, and that has led to entrants putting the event in their calendars year after year. He went on to thank the sponsors for this year’s show.

Dan Gagnon of Spalding has been to Show and Shine three or four times now. He told northeastNOW his 1941 Nash Ambassador 600 has been in his family for over 50 years.

When asked why he chose to come to Melfort, Gagnon said “I come for the people, especially the seniors.”

He added it’s nice to chat with people and discuss his and other vehicles at the event. Gagnon joked that some of the older people in the crowd have asked whether the vehicle is older than them.
