Melfort Fire Department called to recycling bin fire

Some quick thinking may have prevented a dumpster fire in Melfort from spreading to a nearby building.

Fire crews were called to the Norman Vickar Building on Crawford Ave. just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire was smouldering as they arrived.

The fire department said thanks to the quick action of a local resident and the use of multiple fire extinguishers, the blaze was contained to the bin itself.

Crews put out the fire and cleared the scene, and the department thanked the people who helped extinguish the fire and the building’s occupants who evacuated the facility quickly as a precaution.
