Friends of Stovel Park asking for history on stolen plaques

Do you know what was on the plaques stolen from Stovel Park?

If so, the Friends of Stovel Park would love to know.

The community group announced on June 25 three of the four plaques on the cairn in Stovel Park were stolen, although it’s unsure how long they’ve been missing.

Frances Evenson from the Friends of Stovel Park said it’s more important to find out what’s on the plaques instead of trying to get them back.

“We’re not out saying they need to return them,” Evenson said. “It is what it is. They’ve been gone for a long, long time. We just want to know what was on them and we’ll replace them if we can.”

The final plaque on the cairn is from 1961, but Evenson guesses the other stolen plaques date before then.

If the information on the plaques can be found, the Friends of Stovel Park plan to put in new plaques and re-dedicate the park as part of its grand re-opening in late August.
