Hawks in Melfort for matchup with Mustangs
The second installment of the Hawks and Mustangs rivalry goes Friday at the Northern Lights Palace.
Melfort opened the eight-game season series with a 6-2 win over Nipawin at the Centennial Arena on Oct. 19. Nipawin last played on Saturday at home, a 5-2 loss to the Bombers. The Mustangs edged Estevan 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday at the Palace. The Hawks haven’t played many games of late; Head Coach Tad Kozun said the players are looking ahead to a busier schedule leading to Christmas.
“It’s been really slow, we’re looking forward to getting back into playing,” Kozun said. “We’ve played two games in 17 days, it’s been slow, but it’s needed to get in some much-needed practice time.”
The Hawks are currently in 12th with just two victories so far this season in 15 games. With a young roster, Kozun said a break like this has been positive for the team that is used to a lighter schedule in U18.
