Year in Review: Crozon shines bright in 2024

Women’s basketball player, Paige Crozon had quite the year in 2024.

The Humboldt native became a first-time Olympian in July when she travelled to Paris, France to compete on the Canadian national 3×3 basketball team.

“This year has such a special place in my heart, it really tested me at times, but it was also so incredible and so empowering and so special to be able to be an Olympian and to have competed in Paris this summer,” Crozon told northeastNOW.

“I think the thing that comes to mind is just the gratitude that I have to be in the position that I am. To play the game that I love, and to be able to represent my community and my province of Saskatchewan and all the little girls that get to watch me compete on the world stage, I’m so honoured to be in that position.”

While the Olympics were Crozon’s main focus in 2024, she still spent plenty of other time all around the world competing in a variety of tournaments.

Back in May, she and her team competed at the final Olympic qualifying event in Hungary, where Team Canada earned the 16th and final Olympic spot with a bronze medal win.

That stop was followed by events on the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Circuit schedule, which included a stop in Edmonton right before the Olympic Games.

The Canadians won that tournament, giving them a bit of momentum heading into Paris.

Unfortunately, two tough losses in their final two games in France left them just shy of a medal (fourth-place finish), albeit still an impressive result.

Crozon’s squad then had little time to sit on what they believed was a little bit of an Olympic disappointment, as they were off to Saskatoon just two weeks later.

There, they won the women’s circuit’s first stop in Saskatchewan, giving the northeast local a win very close to home.

While Team Canada was unable to complete their 3-peat on the FIBA 3×3 tour, they later won the AmeriCup, with Crozon being named the MVP.

The trophy collector finished her 2024 year just as she started it, with hardware in her hand, as she was also named the Saskatchewan Female Athlete of the Year back in February.
