Sask. wildfires update: No change in active fire numbers from Saturday

There were still 12 active fires burning in Saskatchewan on Sunday, no change from the numbers provided on Saturday by Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA).

SPSA said in its daily report at 1 p.m. on June 15 that five of those blazes were still not contained, while another two fires were under ongoing assessment and firefighters were also protecting values in two areas. Three fires were considered contained, with all the figures representing no change from yesterday.

No live SPSA briefing was held Sunday.

Contained means suppression action is taking place and the fire is not expected to grow in size, ongoing assessment means the fire is being monitored regularly to assess risk to values in the area and not contained means suppression action is taking place but the fire is expected to grow in size, according to SPSA. Protecting values means a fire is active and action is focused on protecting things like cabins and infrastructure.

Blazes not contained include the Shoe, Pisew, Wolf, and Ditch fires.

As well, fire bans are active in 54 urban municipalities, 114 rural municipalities and 28 provincial parks in the province — a slight reduction from Saturday — with the fire danger considered moderate over much of Saskatchewan, with only small pockets where the danger was considered to be high.

SPSA says there have been 254 fires in Saskatchewan so far in 2025. The five-year average to date for Saskatchewan wildfires is 153.
