Man sentenced after firearms incident on Red Earth Cree Nation

A man charged with firearms-related offences after an incident on Red Earth Cree Nation has received his sentence.

Jeff McKay of Red Earth will spend two years behind bars for discharging a firearm with intent and pointing a firearm.

All other counts were stayed.

Carrot River were called about an armed man on the reserve on April 27.

RCMP said at the time a man stopped a vehicle and pointed a gun at the occupants, who drove away. He then shot the gun into the air several times and tried unsuccessfully to stop another vehicle.

McKay then shot and hit the vehicle, damaging it.

There were no injuries in the incident, and McKay was arrested soon after.
