Mustangs fall to Bombers in shootout
It was a highly contested battle between the Melfort Mustangs and the Flin Flon Bombers on Saturday night.
Only two goals were scored through three periods and overtime, before a shootout ultimately decided a winner.
“It’s one of the toughest places to play, and it was all the young guys’ first time up here, and our first time as a group up here this year. For 40 minutes, I thought we played pretty well, I thought we battled really hard in the second and third there, and we gave ourselves a chance to win. That’s really all we could ask for on the first trip up here, so not gonna beat it up too much, the loss is what it is, and we’ll be back for more next weekend,” explained Melfort assistant coach Clarke Huxley.
“We’re gonna work on just a little bit of everything, I don’t think there’s one thing we have to focus on in particular. We’re gonna battle real hard this week in practice, clean up a few things and just work on the X’s and O’s. Above all, we just want to get after it, go back to work, and put our heads down. Just clean up all those little mistakes we’ve had the last couple of games, and then be ready to go for next weekend.”
