Russell McKendree Folden
October 23, 1931 – September 30, 2025
Age: 93
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Russell McKendree Folden, who passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 93.
He was predeceased by his parents, Don and Olga, and his brothers, Robert and Melvin.
Russell is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria; his sons, Brian, Barry, and Brice; his stepchildren, Denise, Twila, and Kelven; and his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Russell was born on the Folden family homestead in Daylesford, Saskatchewan, on October 23, 1931. He spent his early years as an avid curler and baseball player, forming a close bond with his brothers, Melvin and Robert. In the 1950s, he started his own business, Russ Folden Trucking, which he ran until his retirement in the 1990s.
After retiring, Russ embraced his passion for hunting, fishing, and lake life, spending many enjoyable years at several Saskatchewan lakes, including La Ronge, Jan Lake, Wapiti Valley, and Deschambault where he owned cabins and created lasting memories with family and friends.
Russ’ resilience was evident when he overcame cancer in his 80s, and continuing to live life on his own terms. He was well known in his community, particularly for his spirited presence at Mustangs games. Known for his fiery enthusiasm, Russ made both friends and enemies alike, but above all, he loved the camaraderie and was respected by many. Some of his happiest moments were spent cheering on the Mustangs, especially when his grandson, Evan, played on the team.
Even in his final days, Russell maintained his trademark sense of humor, shaking his fist with a grin, never losing his fighting spirit.
A Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be held at Melfort United Church in Melfort, SK on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Fedusiak Funeral Chapel & Crematorium (306)752-3838.
