Einar Leander Person was born September 7, 1928, the third child born to Edwin and Brita. He attended Carrot River School, just a couple of miles down the road. He had lots of stories of those days growing up, and although times were tough, he had many good memories that he would often tell us about.
Dad didn’t have to go far to find his true love and mate for life. The Johnsons lived just a mile east of the Person farm, and on July 10, 1952, Mom and Dad were married and settled on a farm just a couple of miles north of the Johnsons. Together they worked hand in hand milking cows, raising pigs and chickens, and grain farming. On March 17, 1955, they were blessed with twins, a boy Lynnel and a girl Lynne, and life was full raising a family, farming, and many other community activities.
Over the years, Einar served on a long list of boards and committees. He held a firm belief in the cooperative spirit of working together for the betterment of all. Dad loved ball and hockey, playing on the Bagley teams as a young man and later coaching minor hockey and ball in Beatty and North Star. He was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan and an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan and was really excited now with the Jays in the World Series.
After selling the farm in 2016, Mom and Dad bought a condo in Melfort and began a new chapter in their lives. Selma passed suddenly on December 31, 2018, and this, of course, was a huge loss for Einar, but he was thankful for the sixty-six years they had together. He was very active in the Seniors Club, where he enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard, making sure not to miss those Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday gatherings. He loved the friendships he found there, and he very much enjoyed visiting with the people in his condo, which he said was like one big family. His church family also was a big part of his circle of friends. He kept his interest in farming all his life, and living in Melfort didn’t stop that. He would regularly take drives out in the country, surveying crops and seeing how seeding or harvesting was progressing.
Einar always had a positive outlook on life, and many will remember his big smile and laugh. He often talked about how blessed he was and how thankful he was for the life he had. He said many times that we live in the best country in the world, and he couldn’t think of a better community that he would rather be in.
Einar was predeceased by his wife, Selma; siblings, Vernette, Gunnar, and Albert Person, Bernice McFarlane; and great-grandson, Leif Maier.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Jean Seib, Joyce Lust, Joan Jurke, sister-in-law Lily Person, sister-in-law Joyce Person; son Lynnel (Lois) Person and their family: Megan (Nathan) Isaiah, Hudson, Levi, Charis, and Evelyn Maier; Sarah (Jesse) Nel, Rose, and Ivy Vanderveen; Jessica (Jon) Adalyn, Ahna, and Gunner Suzanski; and Bjorn Person; daughter Lynne (Russ) Floyd and their family: Devon (Eleanor) Iris and Ezra Floyd; and Ellise (Matthew) Eden, Lily, Kansas, and Cohen Floyd-Reynaud.
