With love and sorrow, the family of Barbara Louise Johnson announces her peaceful passing on November 10, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, to Michael and Mary Ewaskui, Barb was the second youngest of seven children. She married the love of her life, Otto, in 1945. They first made their home in Kelliher before settling in Melfort, where they raised their seven children: Darlene Armstrong, Eileen Naber, Carole Hanson (Oscar), Lorena Johnson Roxanne), Debby Simoneau (Greg), Sandy Johnson and Todd Johnson (Laureen). In their 54 year marriage, Barb and Otto became cherished members of the community and ran several successful businesses. She and Otto shared a passion for the outdoors, fishing and travel, often taking their grandchildren along on memorable adventures. Barb was known for her sharp bookkeeping skills and her many talents, including cooking, baking, and sewing. Her meals were legendary, bringing generations together, especially around the Christmas holidays. Barb spent countless hours tending her garden and birdwatching, visiting with friends and offering her time and skills to the community and church. Barb was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-greatgrandmother, and a true friend to all who knew her. She was admired for her fun-loving nature and her willingness to try anything, including surfing the waves in Hawaii, sledding on frigid winter days, going on safari in Africa and travelling to Italy for the Olympic Games. Generous, thoughtful, and witty, she touched the lives of everyone around her. Her life was a testament to love, family, and community, leaving a legacy that will be cherished for generations. She will be remembered with deep love and missed beyond measure. The Johnson family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matt Borgstrom and the staff on the second floor at the Scenic Grande; they truly cared for Barb and were
dedicated to ensuring her wellness and comfort. We are especially grateful to Sumin and May, who provided special companionship (reading, singing, listening to music) in the last few months of Barb’s life.
A family celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in Summer of 2026.
Memorial donations may be directed to the SPCA or The Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Fedusiak Funeral Chapel & Crematorium (306)752-3838.
