City of Melfort hosting Twinkle Tour Dec. 22

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and the City of Melfort is once again hosting a Twinkle Tour.

Recreation and Aquatics Manager Shannon Marshall told northeastNOW this is the fifth annual Twinkle Tour, and it gets bigger and better each year.

“It’s a really great fun, festive community event,” Marshall said. “Lots of people come out to enjoy the light displays together.”

The city creates a Google Map of the properties with Christmas lights so residents can drive through Melfort to get in the festive spirit. Marshall said they want to have houses registered to be put on the map, whether you have one light or a thousand on your property.

“Plus, every house that gets [registered] gets…entered to win a local business gift certificate, so that’s why we’re encouraging everybody to sign up,” Marshall explained. “You can register your own home, or you can register a home you think is beautifully decorated.”

People’s Choice Voting is also back by popular demand. When people pick up their Twinkle Tour map, hot chocolate, and Christmas lights bingo cards, there will be instructions on how to vote for the best light display. The house with the most votes will also win a local business gift certificate.

An addition to this year’s Twinkle Tour is Ripley Ford’s “Sparkle Shuttle.” They have two shuttles running throughout town, and people can sign up either as a person or a group.

“Those Sparkle Shuttles are going to tour the highlight homes. We have some really spectacular light displays, those are on the Sparkle Shuttle tour,” said Marshall.

This year’s Twinkle Tour is being held Dec. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m., starting at the Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC).

The Sparkle Shuttle will also start off at the KVC, and it is about a 20-minute tour. You can visit the City of Melfort’s social media pages to register.
